Thailand?

I feel the need to use my frequent flyer miles, and thought Thailand wwould be a nice place to go caving. oes anyone have any experience caving in Thailand?

I found a place http://www.cavelodge.com, looked good, caves all around, cheap, my kinda place. Now the trip all depends on whether or not budget cuts cut me right out of a job in the coming months, so if I am still working my same job next year, the trip will be a go. I have enough skymiles for the trip. But ya I will need some travel buddies, so everybody save your pennies and va-ca days at work

Wendy, that place looks like a wonderful spot for a caving vacation. At 35 baht/US Dollar it is cheap, too.

Here's a web page from another UK caving club with information on caving in Thailand, which you may find useful.

There is quite a lot of cheap accomodation - we (Orpheus Caving Club based in the Peak District, UK) stayed in small huts right on the beach near Krabi in the south and moved to the north for another two weeks staying in a local village while we surveyed caves in the area - a Non-hunting part of a National Park.

I've decided to plan this trip for December 2008. That way I will have plenty of money and time off from work to go. Also time to find a few folks who want to go with me. In December its the dry season and the weather is cool, perfect caving weather. So start saving your pennies.

I spent a month up in northern thailand at caves lodge and also wilderness lodge a little closer to burma. Aussie Jon Spies was running caves lodge at that time. There were heaps of small cave systems all around the lodge, all good value.
Local thais were running Wilderness lodge and you should be able to get their info from caves lodge. The caving around this lodge is remote and requires some self motivation, and good maps from back at caves lodge.
The enormous Nam Lang river cave is definately worth walking out to find. I recall that the lodge had amazing caving dogs! that would wander off into the jungle with you and wait at the entrance minding your gear, and then show you the right way home!

i love exploring caves.
i use to be a member of NSS
i haven't been involved in caving in a while
now that I'm moving to Thailand where in my area there is lots of limestone at and below sea level.
One deep underwater cave has been explored down to over 200 meters deep.
i would like to meet up with others and do some exploring

You should go To Malaysia the northen states like Perlis and kedah have lots of limestone and
the nakawan range is just at the malaysian thai border .. lots of old tin mineing caves there..
some very beautiful !! some quite deep deepest up to 3..6 or something Km deep..

That sounds like an awesome trip I wish I could go. I would also love to do some caving in South America. Hope you get it all worked out.
