here it is

a great free cave rescue manual, lots of techniques, nuts and what not.

hope you find it as use full as I do.

Apparently, there will be an updated version of Life on a Line available in late 2005. Another good publication is Considerations for Rope Rescue by Ken Laidlaw. The current version is from 2002, but this may be getting updated soon too. ... ue2002.pdf

For those interested in attending formal cave rescue training (in the US), the National Cave Rescue Commission now has some documents available on their website at If you click on "student resources", you can download the NCRC skills testing criteria for knots, rigging, SRT and so forth.

The revised edition of Life on a Line has finally been released! It is only available in digital (ebook) format and it's not free this time, but it looks chocked full of good stuff and well worth the money.

(off-topic bit of humor) my first thought on reading the subject line was; why would I want to rescue a rope... especially underground of all places. :-)
